What happened Australia?

There was once a time, l was proud to call myself an Australian, unfortunately that feeling of pride is slowly dwindling away. There are many reasons why I find myself, becoming dissatisfied with the direction that my country is heading. We can start with the abysmal political system, or how we haven’t legalised medical marijuana, or at least ran test on the effectiveness of using medical marijuana, or that we are so politically correct, that we can no longer have a diverse array of opinions within society, If you don’t follow the group you’re labelled a racist or bigot, there was a time that we claimed that we were a multicultural country. Now every time I open any form of social media there is someone talking about , signing a petition to ban the burka or something disgraceful like that, however these are topics for another day the one that this blog is going to focus on is same-sex marriage.

It is now 2017 Belgium, Brazil, France, Denmark, New Zealand, Scotland, Canada all these countries and many more have all legalized same-sex marriage, but for some reason we as a country are still carrying the old mind-set, that marriage can only be between a man and a women. However at the same time we can somehow allow shows on television, such as married at first sight and married by mum and dad. If your argument is that same-sex marriage belittles the sanctity of the act, then how can we possibly allow such shows to air on our networks. How can a show such as married at first sight have four seasons, where is the public outrage at shows like this? Why is nobody protesting these shows destroying the ideology of marriage?

How can we as a country, that are supposedly a nation that prides itself on freedom and diversity, but still not legalize same-sex marriage, but allow these television shows to air on our network.

Does no one realize the hypocrisy in these actions?

We need to pull our heads in and take a long hard look, at what sort of image we want to portray to the rest of the world.
